IQ Test

Intelligence and longevity

Research carried out in Sweden indicated that people whose intelligence quotient amounts to over 115 points have a greater chance to attain the age of seventy-six.

Intelligence quotient and salary

Professor C. Kallnick carried out an interesting experiment in 1979. He gathered a group of people working in different professions and asked them to take an IQ test. It turned out that the salaries of researched people were coherent with their intelligence quotient. A group with the highest IQ could also pride itself with the highest average salaries, i.e. up to 80 thousand dollars annually. The people having IQ between 113 and 130 points earned 47 thousand dollars, while those with IQ between 100 and 114 – only 28 thousand. This stems from the fact that the most intelligent people were better at school, studied at the best universities and, therefore, worked in the best-paid professions.

The most intelligent person ever

In the thirties, scientists estimated IQ of various historical figures. Among them were scientists, writers, inventors, commanders and composers. Leonardo da Vinci, whose IQ was estimated for 220, was hailed the most intelligent person in the history of humankind. The list included also Isaac Newton (190), Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (210) and Blaise Pascal (195). Albert Einstein’s intelligence quotient was estimated for approx. 160 points.

Mozart effect

In the nineties it was popularly believed that playing classical music to children could have a positive effect on their IQ. Yet, it is an absolutely false conviction as empirical research indicated that the type of music children listen to can in no way affect their intellectual development.

Average IQ in different countries

The authors of book "IQ and Wealth of Nations" presented a list of 81 countries ordered according to the average intelligence quotient of their populations. Hong Kong occupied the first position with 107 points, followed by South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. New Zealand was 14th with 100 points.
